Enjoying Everyone’s Posts

I can see that this is going to be a stimulating experience.

I have started my two online persuasion/argumentation courses. The students are very enthusiastic and almost half logged in before class started.

One thing I am continuing to do that has worked very well is using past students as Teaching Assistants. I asked several of them and the enthusiastically wanted to be a part of the class. They don’t do any grading. Their main task is to join in the discussions to keep the energy going. And, of course, answer any questions that may come along.

I cannot pay them in money, but a promised recommendation, an item for their academic resume and personal satisfaction seems to motivate them enough to participate. They were very honored to be asked.

This is working well.

What sort of things do you all try in your classes?

Hello world!

Hello Everyone

I am very glad to join all of you in this online course.

I have been teaching Communication Courses online now for several years and am currently the Distance Education Trainer for Los Angeles Valley College. Lately I have felt myself in a bit of an “online rut” and I am anxious to hear all sorts of new ideas and approaches to shake me out of that rut.

In this class, I can see now my biggest challenge is going to be to figure out a theme for this blog. Being married for 30 years I am always feeling I need my wife’s input before I make a major decision like this. Ok, just kidding, but getting just the right theme is going to take some time.

I am looking forward to this yearlong adventure.
